Newsflash! We have some additional race results to report from the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii!!
This event is the premier ironman distance event in the world and most triathletes can only dream of qualifying to compete in this prestigious event, let alone have any hope of winning. According to the event website: "Tens-of-thousands of triathletes try to get one of those coveted Ironman spots every year. Only 1,800 succeeded." Kona is to triathlon what Boston is to the marathon - the big enchilada.
GearLink is proud to say that one of our triathletes qualified for and raced in Kona this year!! Dan Chechele made the trip all the way to Hawaii to compete over the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run. The course is especially difficult given the hilly bike course over lava fields in hot windy weather. This is the original Ironman race that started it all and it earned that name for good reason. To finish this race you really have to be tough!!
Dallas Rose describes Dan as "Our team secret weapon" and "GearLink's long course man". I think Dallas is not relishing the thought of competing against Dan next year in the 50-54 age group.
According to Dan "Kona was definitely a tough day and the hardest event of them all. Of the other 6 events this year with podium finishes, Kona was definitely the most humbling. The bike tore me up to the point of lactic overdose in the run." But Dan had a great race overall, finishing with a time of 11:33:23. Dan's splits were 1:20:57 on the swim, 5:36:29 on the bike, and 4:27:17 on the run. Awesome job!!! Let's all give a big hand to Dan for a fantastic accomplishment!

Next up on the triathlon calendar for our team is the Ironman 70.3 Miami in which Dallas Rose will be competing this weekend. Let's all send Dallas positive vibes and wish him a good race!
