Tarpon Springs Rotary Triathlon

Saturday October 8th was the Tarpon Springs Rotary Triathlon. The race was originally scheduled for early September but had to be cancelled due to bad weather. The weather held up this time around, except for a pretty strong wind. The race consists of a 1/4 mile swim, 10 mile bike course, and a 3 mile run. Normally Gearlink sports a pretty big field at this race, but this year there was only one Gearlink teammate competing and who showed up ready to race!

Craig Emery took 2nd place in the M40-44 division with an overall time of 55:39! Craig's 24:34 bike split was the fastest in his age group and 2nd fastest of the entire field and he also had the fastest run split (19:34) in his age group! Awesome job!

Cuban Missile Strikes Spain: Celia Dubey Silver Medalist at ITU Duathlon World Championship

The amazing GearLink results continue with GearLink's very own Celia Dubey (aka The Cuban Missile) winning a silver medal in the F35-39 age group at the ITU Sprint Duathlon World Championship in Gijon Spain on September 25!!!

The sprint duathlon course in Gijon, a coastal city in the north of Spain, consisted of a 5k run, 20k bike, and 2.5k run. The bike was hilly with a large 3 mile climb followed by a technical 3 mile descent - certainly not your typical Florida sprint tri course!! The race was run with a mass start for all the female age groups. On the first run Celia ran a strong 20:57 5k which already put her in 3rd place. She was then out on the bike after a super quick 52 second transition (fastest in her age group!). On the 3 mile climb she was passed by a few other athletes despite pushing herself to 95% of her max heart rate but she fought to keep them in sight. Leading up to the race Celia had carefully studied the bike course, especially the technical descent, so now it was the decisive moment.

Break Open the Cristal at Crystal River!!

Saturday September 3 was the 3rd and final race in the Crystal River Series. The race consists of a 1/4 mile swim, 15 mile bike course, and a 3 mile run. The weather was a bit cooler and made for nice racing conditions. The quality of the field at Crystal River always seems to be improving. At this weekend's race we had two world champions in our midst. Ryan Bailie, a former under 20 ITU World Triathlon Champion, won the men's race. And Charlotte McShane, a former under 20 Xterra World Triathlon Champion, won the women's race. And our GearLink Teammates got a few podium spots!

Andre' Terblanche placed third in the Clydesdale division with a time of 1:14:36!! Andre set a new PR for the course and also had a great bike split. Andre would have won the overall series for the Clydesdale division had it not been for a mix up that had him in the age group category for one of the prior races.Watch out for Andre at next year's series!

Yo ho ho!! Ye Battle at Fort Desoto Triathlon and Duathlon

Ahoy matey, on Saturday August 20 a bunch of seafarin' rapscallions and wenches (otherwise known as triathletes and duathletes) raided Fort De Soto Park for the annual Battle at Fort Desoto. The triathlon consists of a 1/4 mile swim, 10 mile bike course, and a 5k run. For the landlubbers the duathlon replaced the swim with a 1 mile run (actually 1.4 miles). While not as vast as some ye other local events, this race makes up for it in merriment and debauchery. The weather was bloody hot making for a real swashbucklin' adventure and Team Gearlink made sure to bring home the booty! But only after they kicked some booty!! Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!

Craig "The Cannon" Emery plundered and pillaged in the triathlon to take 2nd place in the M40-44 age group!!  Craig crushed the competition's barnacles with an average speed of over 25 mph on the bike and an overall time of 56:17. Blimey!! Craig is looking shipshape for his upcoming adventure in Ironman 70.3 Austin in October.

Ken "The Capt'n" O'Day took no mercy on the scallywag competition to take 3rd place overall in the duathlon!! While others walked the plank Ken battened down the hatches and ran like he was three sheets to the wind to finish with an overall time of 54:16. Aye, bloody good!

GearLink Tri Team Goes Nuclear at Crystal River!

Today was the second race in the Crystal River Sprint Triathlon series - a 1/4 mile swim, 15 mile bike, and 3 mile run across from the Crystal River nuclear power plant. The weather was absolutely perfect with temps in the 70s and only a light breeze. While the nuclear power plant may be shut down due to cracks in the reactor walls, there was no cracking in GearLink's tri team today. Our triathletes turned up the power and generated some electric results. With four racers GearLink scored four podiums!!!Instead of spending 2 billion in repairs, maybe we should just put our triathletes on trainers and hook them up to a generator!

Celia Dubey (aka the Cuban Missile), who has been recovering from a knee injury after her stellar National Duathlon performance, came blasting back today and picked up right where she left off. Celia was the OVERALL female winner!! Amazing!
